LOCATION

Glozhene is a village in Teteven Municipality, Lovech District. It is located 56 km southwest of the regional town of Lovech, 12 km northwest of the town of Teteven, 12 km southeast of the town of Yablanitsa and about 105 km southeast east of the capital Sofia. The population is about 1,000 people. Glozhene is located about 10 km from the main Sofia-Varna road. The closest connection to Plovdiv and southern Bulgaria is the Troyan-Karnare pass, about 70 km. from the town of Teteven. The village is located on the banks of the Vit River at the foot of the Stara Planina Mountains, at an altitude of 320 m above sea level. The climate is characterized by relatively mild winters and cool summers. An ecologically clean region with a favorable climate and many natural landmarks. Legend has it that during his camp at the spring, Ivan Asen II was captivated by the tranquility, clean air and incredible nature of this place and after his return to Tarnovgrad, he ordered a residence to be built there (today’s “Kulata” area in the Asen neighborhood), where his five-year-old daughter Elena, suffering from a lung disease, could be treated. The land of the village of Glozhene falls within the protected areas “Vasilovska Planina” and “Central Balkan – Buffer”. On its territory are the protected areas: ZM “Dragovo Prisoe”, ZM “Lisets” and ZM “Valoga” and the natural landmarks: PZ “Morovitsa Cave” PZ “Lyastovitsa Cave” PZ “Vodopada”.
