So far, it is not possible to say exactly when the first inhabitants appeared there. Historical science, however, has established that people lived in the land of the village of Glozhene during the Late Paleolithic (Old Stone Age). Evidence of this was the finds found in the Morovitsa cave. Both primitive people living elsewhere and the settlers of this cave during the Late Paleolithic got their food by hunting and gathering wild fruits and roots. They used tools made of wood and stone. The finds are kept in the Archaeological Museum in the capital and Teteven Museum. ne needles and awls were used to sew clothes. Clay pots were made. As evidenced by the found objects, during the Neolithic and Eneolithic the inhabitants of Morovitsa used more advanced tools. At that time, they also raised some animals: sheep, goats, cattle, pigs, dogs. They grow rye, barley, lentils, and other agricultural crops. Stone mills were used to grind grain. The settlers of Morovitsa made attempts to recreate their surroundings. Proof of this was the clay figurine of a woman, found in the cave the many wall paintings, and the incised ornaments of some of the clay vessels found there. Traces of the life of primitive people from the Neolithic period were also found in the cave of Draganchovitsa: ceramic vessels and parts of clay vessels. During the Bronze and Iron Ages, the land of Glozhene was inhabited by Thracians. This is evidenced by the burial mounds and ruins of walls that have remained since then. In the local Thracian mounds were found various objects for decoration: rings, bracelets, earrings, etc. Some of them have high artistic value. To this day, in the forests of the villa zone of Runovitsa, there is a stone wall, which is believed to have been built during the time of Ancient Rome.

According to the legend preserved for centuries, the history of this settlement in its modern model is associated with the arrival of the Kyiv prince Georgi Glozh at the beginning of the XIII century. The legend says that fleeing from the Tatar invaders, the prince arrived with his company in Bulgaria and after helping to overthrow the usurper Boril from the throne, he received from Ivan Asen II an estate at the foot of the Balkan Mountains along the Vit River. To assume that the land was part of the personal possessions of someone from the royal family of Asenevtsi, the facts that there is a forest here, which is still called Azanitsa (Asenovitsa), and the neighborhood of Asen (in the local dialect “Asen”). At the place where Prince George settled with his company, a new settlement was launched, which received his name. It is known that the settlement before receiving its modern name was called Chiren Pazar or more precisely one of its larger central neighborhoods at that time. It was not until a few centuries later that the very distant mountain neighborhoods shifted to what we know today. It is more likely, however, to assume that the Kyiv prince received the name Glozh or Glozhensky after he and his company settled in this settlement since there are much more plausible theories about the name of the village. The first is that it originated from the sharp wind. The second, stronger theory is related to the presence of many bushes and hawthorn in the vicinity. In 1870, Vasil Levski founded a local revolutionary committee in Glozhene, which became one of the most numerous. The chairman is Vasil Yonkov – Glozhenetza, one of Levski’s closest friends and collaborators in Bulgaria. Vasil Yonkov was arrested, after the Arabakon robbery, which he did not approve. Due to the many testimonies about his revolutionary activities, he received one of the most severe sentences. The other members of the Glozhene Committee were saved because Vasil Yonkov did not betray anyone. The members burn the Committee archive. On March 8, 2007, the depopulated villages of Zorenishki Dol, Lozeto, Varpey, Topilishte, and Asen were annexed to Glozhene.

ANTIQUITY: The forest, the full-flowing river Vit, the lush vegetation, the comfortable caves, the presence of a lot of animals and fish in the land of Gložene created attractive conditions for people to live in ancient times.
